Organic, locally grown food: Better for your family and for our hungry world — right? Heading to the local market on a sunny day, it feels good to know that you’ll have fresh and juicy vegetables and fruits on your table that day. In current times, you may even feel like you’re doing a great job of encouraging famers to go green.

The truth is, there is no silver bullet when it comes to solving food challenges in a world that will count 9.7 billion people by 2050. As many of us know, just the act of farming cannot solve this global issue. There is a need for focus on how farms perform, current employed methods, environmental impact, etc. Of course, the trend of organic and healthy eating is catching up again where an increasing number of people are choosing a complete chemical free lifestyle and turning towards eating natural and organic. If there is a demand, there will efforts to supply. InvenTrust talked to someone who is deeply involved in this field and shared his views on how innovation can play a major role in organic farming. Globally, we are witnessing a rising concern for safe food supply. We believe that organic farming is the path to ensure a healthy life. There was a time when there was nothing called ‘organic food’, it was a given. But with increased industrialization, man has earned several unexpected threats to his lifestyle and one of the primary threats is unavailability of healthy food. With advancing technology, the string between the ground and man was severed. The connection, the communication — it has all been broken. There is no trust, only a desire to do business. To me, the irony of this approach is that we have succeeded only in destroying the very source that provides life and livelihood. Today’s agriculture looks like something out of science fiction movie. Huge industrialized farms that rely on synthetic chemicals for productivity have replaced quaint farmhouses and acres of healthy crops blowing in the wind. Apart from healthy nutrition, enough research shows that organic farming has several indirect benefits — more wildlife, healthier consumers and farm workers, lower greenhouse gas emissions, reduced soil erosion and increased water retention. Yes, there is an increased attention towards organic farming and rightly so. We are among that set of the society who are a part of this change.

That is what we are determined to restore. There are several issues we have tackled through our work. We’re making organic farming 1. more affordable, almost 70%-75% cheaper; 2. healthier crop production/yield; 3. higher reliability in organic agriculture. We offer an all-in-one solution with less complications i.e. our single product is useful for all crops, fruits, vegetables and plants. Our customers do not have to purchase separate products for different crops and diseases. — Dayanand Arya, Gowardhan Krushi Ayurved Pvt. Ltd.
